The Monheim Geyser

The Monheim Geyser by artist Thomas Stricker is a man-made natural phenomenon that has the power to stop car traffic, which normally seems to be relentlessly circulating, for minutes on end. The mist that the geyser produces becomes denser and denser as it prepares for the next eruption, spouting a column of water that can reach up to 12 meters in height. The constantly changing, sculptural shape of the water is fascinating to watch, the eruptions appear chaotic, wild and unpredictable.

How long will the mystic geyser hold still before the next eruption? Nobody knows! There can be days or weeks, occasionally even months, between the geyser's sudden bursts of water – because it takes 64 hours of sunshine before the small, mist-covered island in the center of a roundabout near the Rhine wakes up and returns to activity. And only when the wind and the temperature are right will it start erupting again for four hours.

In other words, keep an eye on the weather in Monheim – and go see the Monheim Geyser! It is well worth it.

Take a look at the [extern]forecast for the next geyser eruption based on current weather data (German website).
