Are you between 16 and 20 and living in Monheim am Rhein? If so, you can apply for your free Interrail Pass here! The City of Monheim am Rhein will cover the full costs of the Interrail ticket, which would normally cost you €389.

The Interrail Pass is your ticket to 33 European countries. It allows you to spend two months traveling these countries by rail – for instance, after you have finished school, or during your summer holidays or semester break. When you return, you write a short report on your trip and send a photo so that we know you have used your pass. We are happy to publish interesting reports or photos on the City's website.

These are the requirements you need to meet for an application:

You must be between 16 and 20 years old.
Monheim am Rhein must be your primary place of residence on the date of your application.
You e-mail us a short travel report with a photo to wir-fuer-europa@monheim.de no later than six weeks after returning from your trip and agree that we may publish the report and photograph on the City’s website.

FAQ

What are the requirements for a free Interrail Pass?

Three requirements need to be met:

You must be between 16 and 20 years old.
Monheim am Rhein must be your primary place of residence on the date of your application. If you move house between the application and the start of your trip, the passport remains valid.
You e-mail us a short travel report with a photo to wir-fuer-europa@monheim.de no later than six weeks after returning from your trip and agree that we may publish the report and photograph on the City’s website.

How many times can I apply for an Interrail Pass?

You can only apply once for the free Interrail Pass via the city of Monheim am Rhein.

How far and how many times can I travel with the Interrail Pass?

The passport must be activated online within eleven months. You enter the date on which you want to start your trip in the activated passport. From then on, the passport is valid for two months. During these two months you can travel by train in up to 33 European countries for a duration of 15 days. On each of these 15 days you can travel from midnight to midnight on as many trains as you like.

In which countries and in which means of transport is the Interrail Pass valid?

Can I also use the Interrail Pass to travel in Germany?

You can use the Interrail Pass in Germany for one outward and one return trip, i.e. once for leaving the country and once for returning to Germany. These trips can take place on any two days of the trip and will be noted separately on the Interrail Pass. On the remaining days, the Interrail Pass is only valid in other European countries.

What costs will I incur during the trip?

The City covers the costs for the Interrail Pass, which regularly costs 389 euros. With the Interrail Pass you can travel by train for free. However, depending on the type of train and the country, you may still have to pay reservation costs. Please enquire about that in the respective countries. Until when should I send in my travel report and photo?

We are looking forward to receiving a short travel report and at least one photo of your journey no later than six weeks after returning from your trip. Please send both to [E-Mail] wir-fuer-europa@monheim.de. Nice reports, quotes or photos might be publishedon the City's website.

What should I do if I can't start my trip as planned?

If you cannot make the trip for an important reason, please contact us as early as possible. We will then take back the passport and there will be no costs for you. If you do not start the trip without informing us in time, we will have to charge you the total cost of the pass amounting to 389 Euros.

If you have already activated your Interrail Pass, you must first deactivate it via your Interrail account. However, it is not possible to cancel or exchange your Interrail Pass via your Interrail account. Please contact us.
