Are you between 18 and 20 and living in Monheim am Rhein?
If so, you can apply for your free Interrail Pass here! The City of Monheim am Rhein will cover the full costs of the Interrail ticket, which would normally cost you €370.
The Interrail Pass is your ticket to 33 European countries. It allows you to spend two months traveling these countries by rail – for instance, after you have finished school, or during your summer holidays or semester break.
When you return, you write a short report on your trip and send a photo so that we know you have used your pass. We are happy to publish interesting reports or photos on the City's website.
These are the requirements you need to meet for an application:
As there are still travel restrictions, unused Interrail Passes applied for before April 1, 2020 can be exchanged for a new Interrail Pass until September 1, 2021. The old Interrail Pass can then be replaced with the new digital Mobile Pass. The Mobile Pass has the advantage that you do not have to specify a fixed start date for the trip. You can decide flexibly within the next eleven months when you want to start your Interrail journey.
In order to exchange your passport, please contact the provider Eurail, who will take care of everything else. All information on how to exchange your ticket can be found here. Please write a short message to firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as you have exchanged the ticket.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the persons listed on the page.
Three requirements need to be met:
The pass is valid for two month from the start date. Within these two months you can travel by train on 15 days in up to 33 European countries. On each of these 15 days you can travel from midnight to midnight on as many trains as you wish.
The Interrail Pass is valid in 33 European countries. A list of the countries and railroad companies can be found here.
You can use the Interrail Pass in Germany for one outward and one return trip, i.e. once for leaving the country and once for returning to Germany. These trips can take place on any two days of the trip and will be noted separately on the Interrail Pass. On the remaining days, the Interrail Pass is only valid in other European countries.
The City covers the costs for the Interrail Pass, which regularly costs 370 euros. With the Interrail Pass you can travel by train for free. However, depending on the type of train and the country, you may still have to pay reservation costs. Please enquire about that in the respective countries. You Interrail Pass also includes discounts for certain ferry routes. More information can be found here.
In addition, you will of course need a budget for food, accommodation and other activities. Tips for planning your trip can be found here.
We are looking forward to receiving a short travel report and at least one photo of your journey no later than six weeks after returning from your trip. Please send both to email@example.com no later than six weeks after returning from your trip. We may publish the report and photograph on the City’s website.
If for an important reason you are unabale to start the trip as planned, please get in touch with the contact persons listed on this page or write an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
