Strategic Goals

On February 10, 2026, the City Council agreed on six strategic goals. The goals serve as the light showing the way to Monheim's future and the compass that guides policymakers and the City's administration. These are the six goals:

1. The city of Monheim am Rhein is committed to a sustainable budgetary policy in order to ensure its ability to act in the long term.

The City of Monheim am Rhein provides for municipal expenditure for its core task of providing services of general interest and relies on voluntary services, predominantly within the framework of the budget surplus.
The City of Monheim reviews all investment projects for their financial viability and financial sustainability and reprioritizes them.
The City of Monheim am Rhein strives to reduce its debt level through a thrifty, economical and efficient budget policy. Property tax is to be reduced.

2. Monheim am Rhein is a "City for Everyone," where inclusion, intergenerational justice and equal opportunities are practiced at every level.

The City of Monheim am Rhein is an advocate for the concept of inclusion, which regards every person as a unique and valuable member of society. This includes treating residents, political bodies and the administration with respect.
Monheim am Rhein sees itself as a place where diversity is appreciated, where participation is actively promoted and no one is excluded. This applies in particular to senior citizens, people with disabilities, people with an international family history, members of the LGBTQIA++ community.
The City of Monheim am Rhein provides attractive, affordable and easily accessible housing and ensures a good neighborhood development in all city districts.
The City of Monheim am Rhein continues to enhance the Berliner Viertel quarter involving local residents and retailers.
The City of Monheim am Rhein keeps improving and extending civic involvement.
The City of Monheim am Rhein embraces religious and ideological diversity and is committed to mutual respect, tolerance and interreligious dialog

3. As the "Children's Capital" (Hauptstadt für Kinder®), the City of Monheim am Rhein creates the best possible opportunities for the future of children and young people

The City of Monheim am Rhein is improving educational options for children and adolescents by facilitating access to education, improving the level of education, and promoting education in an exemplary manner. All children, regardless of their origin or religion, gender, or sexuality, should be able to develop their potential.
The City of Monheim am Rhein will continue to create a child- and youth-friendly environment, particularly through the Mo.Ki prevention chain.
The City of Monheim am Rhein helps citizens reconcile work and family life.
The City of Monheim am Rhein will continue to set standards in terms of the protection of child welfare.

4. The City of Monheim am Rhein relies on sustainable and innovative technologies and a responsible, economical use of resources in order to be climate-neutral by 2035.

The City of Monheim am Rhein further develops its climate protection concept, develops a concept for municipal heat planning, fosters eco-friendly mobility, and reduces citywide CO2 emissions.
The City of Monheim am Rhein is developing a climate adaptation strategy and implementing appropriate measures. This includes increasing greenery throughout the urban area.
The City of Monheim am Rhein protects local nature and landscape areas. In particular, interconnected biotope areas are to be preserved.
The City of Monheim am Rhein is pursuing the digitization of all processes for citizen-oriented, efficient and transparent administration.

5. The City of Monheim am Rhein promotes cultural offerings, local traditions, and sports to make the city even more attractive for its citizens and visitors.
